The planning application prepared on behalf of Immix owner Jim Suggate has been presented to Wodonga Council and is presently being assessed by planning staff.
The saleyards hosted their final sales in early 2015 after more than three decades of operation before a multi-million-dollar complex opened at North Barnawartha near the Logic industrial hub.
The site is 22 hectares in total, but five hectares fronting Whytes Road and opposite Australian Defence Force warehouses have been retained by council to build a works depot.
The planning application prepared by Habitat Planning states the majority of the material to be processed on site will arrive by truck with access to the site via the existing entrance from Whytes Road that was formerly used when the saleyards were in operation.
Up to 10 trucks per day will visit each day for loading and unloading along with some smaller vehicles.
They will unload to a stockpile site on a large concrete pad and material from the stockpile will then be transferred to a compacting machine via a grab attachment to an excavator.
Processed material will be transferred to a second stockpile or loaded directly into shipping containers for export.
A maximum of five staff will work on the site.
The saleyards site is located about 800 metres from the nearest home with the proponent comfortable there will be no excessive noise from operations.
The deadline for submissions was last week, but Wodonga Council can’t confirm at present if the Immix planning application will be dealt with at staff level or be presented to councillors for determination.
