After trailing by six goals at the first change, the Bulldogs rallied to consolidate their position in the top three with two rounds remaining.
Captain Kristen Andrews led her side superbly in the centre while Jenni Vine was playing well before going down in the second term.
“We knew Rutherglen was going to be a tough team to beat,” coach Zanelle Gerecke said.
“We didn’t have a fantastic start so we played catch-up most of the game.”
Defenders Jamie Sandilands and Emily Browne played well for Rutherglen.
