The television station unveiled its voices for the grand slam on Thursday with Groth joining fellow retired players John McEnroe, Jim Courier, Jelena Dokic, Todd Woodbridge, Alicia Molik and Dylan Alcott.
Hosts for the coverage will be Tony Jones, Rebecca Maddern and James Bracey.
Groth said he was excited to be joining the telecast after having retired last January.
It will be the first time the tournament has been broadcast by Nine, after having been a staple of Channel Seven’s summer line-up for decades.
Nine head of sport Tom Malone talked up the commentary squad.
“We have assembled a team of fresh faces while bringing back some familiar names who are the best at what they do,” he said.
“The Australian Open is the country’s pre-eminent summer sporting event and we’re confident our new-look team will help to instil a renewed passion for the game into lovers of tennis around Australia.”
