Paul Feltrin, 35, targeted a property on Morrison Street with a co-accused on March 28.
The Wodonga Magistrates Court on Thursday heard the pair were seeking out the boy who they labelled a “pedo”.
They went to the property about 12.50am and screamed at those inside.
One of the men told someone at the house their son was a pedophile and that they were “going to f--- him up”.
A door was smashed with a pole and the pair attempted to enter the property.
The court heard the co-accused said “I’ll get in and belt the living f--- out of you” before the pair moved around the outside of the home.
A car was smashed with the pole, a brick and a table, causing close to $5000 damage.
The pair went back out the front of the house while police were dispatched.
When they arrived, the men were found walking on a footpath and were arrested.
Feltrin made a disturbing admission, telling police he had a revolver down his pants.
The gun contained two blank rounds.
Feltrin was later asked why he was carrying a gun, while drunk, and he said he was “trying to prove I’m a tough man”.
The pair had targeted the property following the rape of a young girl, he said.
The court heard the allegations against the young man were not in dispute, but it had been wrong for the pair to go around to the property and take matters into their own hands.
Leading Senior Constable Wayne Taylor noted the importance of “sending that message that vigilante justice isn’t acceptable (in) any form”.
The court heard the co-accused was the instigator.
“I really don’t understand why you got involved in this … at the end of the day, you have to trust the court system,” Magistrate Stella Stuthridge said, noting things could quickly escalate out of control.
“It’s not the wild west.”
She fined Feltrin $5000 and placed him on a two-year corrections order.
