When the current core of the Albury Cougars under-18 team first came together, it took some time to figure out who fit where.
But once they sorted it out, the mixture was dynamite, ripping off an undefeated season to qualify for this weekend's Spalding Junior League State Cup in Sydney.
They aren't the only Cougars to prowl the courts of Sydney though – the under 12 team has also qualified.
Under 18s co-coach David Bowden said their 14-game winning streak was no accident.
“We've got seven first-year players who have played a fair bit of basketball together,” he said.
“We actually lost our first six games together, but once the Waratah League started we got on a roll and kept on winning.
“You just get used to different offences, different defences, and it's about spending time together playing basketball.”
The under-12 team is coached by Rebecca Hall.
