“Again, we see Cr Cameron, in a lead up to a state election, playing politics with people who are suffering due to the closure of this important therapy resource,” Mr Aplin said.
"This is the same councillor who has campaigned against a regional aquatic facility that would have included a hydrotherapy pool for use by all the community.
"Since last year I have been encouraging the council to put forward a proposal and plan to develop a regional aquatic centre near the Lauren Jackson Stadium and apply under the NSW Government regional sports infrastructure fund as I believe they will have a real shot.
"Instead, he wants the community to continue with the old, non-all weather and limited pool facilities that currently exist.”
Mr Aplin said Cr Cameron was either “ignorant or attempting to mislead” residents about arrangements for the day-to-day running of the health service.
"The NSW Coalition Government provides annual funding, under the agreement for the Victorian Labor Government to administer the service," he said.
In a counter claim, Cr Cameron said Mr Aplin was trying to lock Albury ratepayers into funding a $48 million aquatics centre.
“By his own admission in his own statement the NSW Government is responsible for providing money for upkeep of facilities in conjunction with the Victorian Government,” he said.
“Clearly they are not contributing enough if the chief executive of AWH feels the need to shut the pool.
“I would like Mr Aplin to articulate clearly to the community how much money in the last 12 months the NSW Government has contributed to the health service.”
