After a scoreless first half, the Border outfit went ahead early in the second half through Sean Pye, before weathering a 15-minute storm from the visitors.
Zac Walker doubled the advantage in the 87th minute, before captain Ashley Dunn slipped through the defence in stoppage time to seal the 3-0 result.
Murray coach Elliot Jones was pleased his side got the result and finally put relegation talks to bed.
No matter how many points Nunawading City finishes the season with, they cannot move off the bottom of the table.
“It was 3-0 in the end, but it was probably a lot tighter than that,” Jones said.
“We went 1-0 up, but for the next 15 minutes Langwarrin really put some heat on us and had a couple of good chances.
“Thankfully our guys dug in and held on, and, for me, once they saw off that 15-minute period, we turned the game back around and converted two of our chances at the end.
“When you look at the week before, we weren’t able to handle that pressure and we copped three goals in the second half.
“To hang on and then take our chances was the most pleasing thing.”
Mid-season signing Archie Thompson featured for the best part of 90 minutes and played a key role in the final third.
“He didn’t have his best day personally, he was marked really closely and anywhere he went, he had a couple of guys following, which is to be expected,” Jones said.
“As Archie does, he brought others into the game and set up the first two goals.
“We managed to get 89 minutes out of him, which was really pleasing and he really put a shift in defensively as well.
“Having Archie out there, he has that class in the final third, but not just that, the boys walk a bit taller when Archie is out on the field.
“You can feel that there’s confidence when we go forward, knowing we’ve got someone like that.”
However, the feelgood story was the performance of Azia Feltrin on debut.
“He was best on ground, his first half was amazing,” Jones said.
“We told him to back himself in, get on the ball and run at players and he did just that, the moment didn’t get the better of him at all.
“He wanted the ball right from the start and was involved in two of the goals as well.”
The ladder after round 25 is: Dandenong City 54, Moreland City 50, Springvale 33*, GV Suns 32, Melbourne City 31*, Eastern Lions 30*, Langwarrin 28, Murray United 25, Box Hill United 23*, Nunawading City 12*.
