The first potential students to sign up to the new Bachelor of Biomedical Science at La Trobe University Albury-Wodonga learned what’s in store for them at the campus open day yesterday.

The new course, linked with the Murray Darling Medical School Network announced in May, provides graduate entry to a Doctor of Medicine offered by the University of Melbourne in Shepparton.
Robyn Murphy, Head of La Trobe’s Melbourne Department of Biochemistry and Genetics, has been among the staff designing the new course and spoke with those interested on Sunday.
“This is a commitment to address a shortage of doctors in the regions,” she said.
“We had a lot of people visit the open day in Melbourne to inquire about it.
“We’ll be able to deliver really good quality course content that meets the needs of the rural population.”
Siarne Deeves, 17, travelled from Leeton to attend the open day and is looking at a degree in animal and veterinary biosciences.
“I’ve really enjoyed spending time with animals since I was in primary school,” she said. “It’s a stressful time, but it’s exciting as well.”
