The sires used, including Complement, Tour of Duty, Broken Bow and Absolute, have targeted traits the Scotts believe are essential to running a profitable beef enterpris and the quality of the 130 bulls on offer this year is an endorsement of this careful selection process.

Scotts Angus M150, a son of Tour of Duty, is an example of the outstanding results that have been achieved.

His estimated breeding values include: Domestic Index +130 (top  one per cent of the breed), calving ease +3.9 (top five per cent), 400 day weight +96 (top seven per cent), milk +22 (top four per cent), and RBY +2.1 (top two per cent).

“We place considerable emphasis on birth weights and calving ease, and have selected sire lines that will assist our clients in running low maintenance herds,” said Steven Scott.

After 60 years of breeding Angus, the Scotts are expert in managing the conditions.

Their herd has experienced much seasonal variability over the years which has produced functional cattle that remain fertile and productive in tough times, while still being able to fully express their genetic potential when conditions suit.

“Despite the seasonal challenges, this year’s line up of bulls is in ideal working condition, without being finished under feedlot conditions. They are at present grazing our dual purpose wheat crops,” said Steven.
