A fresh, new display home offering a point of difference through clever space-saving design, and smart-home technology for modern family living. The home features an electronic home-entry system, flexible automated lighting and the safety of digital, smart technology smoke and gas emission detectors. The internal design makes the most of the floor area, with a fixed-glass window to the IT station creating a connection from the back of the home to the main living area, making the home feel larger and more connected. The benefit of a third-car garage allowing access through to the rear yard adds to the already generous storage space within the home.

The ‘Alkira’ is nestled in the vibrant estate of Whitebox Rise. Designed specifically for the northeast region, key features focus on floorplan flexibility, climate suitability and elements of ch’i design, including abundant light, unobstructed vision and flowing layout. The home skilfully demonstrates flexibility and suitability as it sits just as cohesively on an urban block as it does in a lifestyle block or rural homestead. Strong design focus was placed on internal temperature stability to maximise occupant comfort levels. Passive design elements were also key with orientation, sweeping verandahs, ventilation and insulation-important inclusions.

Large, full-glass doors in the main living area overlook the magnificent in-ground pool that is placed in the centre of the home. A glass walkway over the top of the pool is a design highlight. The kitchen is showered in sunlight which is bought into the home via large, double-glazed windows as well as overhead louvre windows. The living room features gas-log fire place surrounded by stone and an expansive relaxing space incorporating the kitchen and dining areas. The lounge room flows out to another outdoor area for casual entertaining.

The brief from Bendigo Kangan Institute was to create a health and community centre of excellence'. The result isan outstanding structure for students and staff. The highlight of the facility is the simulation labs that replicate the real-life environment that students will encounter at work. These include areas designed as acute and sub-acute hospital wards with ensuites and clean- and-dirty utilities, aged-care wards, pathology wings, early-childhood centres and a live-in house. These labs provide the best quality training facilities for student learning. There are also large open- plan study areas and student hubs. A large interactive wall is included in the front entrance and there is a dedicated space for industry showcase events.
