Hidden Cinema, a partnership between Albury Council and a professional creative team, also allows people to enter the world of the film before sitting down to watch.
About 16 performers and the production crew will present this immersive experience eight times over two weekends, August 25-26 and September 1-2.
Director Alyson Evans said last year’s Hidden Cinema received a great public response, with the second weekend selling out.
“Some of our performers are involved as performers this year because they came last year as audience members and just loved it so much that they wanted to be involved this year,” she said.
For last year’s film, Ghostbusters, ticket holders received lead-up emails warning of spooky happenings and were then told to flee to Albury Library Museum.
Elements of the film were recreated, such as scientific testing and cleaning up the slimed archive room.
Evans said Hidden Cinema aimed to offer people new ways of engaging with the arts.
“So really blurring those lines between the audience and performers, but in a really safe, non-threatening way,” she said.
Naturally the director wouldn’t reveal this year’s film.
“All I can say is it’s a great heartwarming film and it will be really lovely; if you book your ticket you’ll get the first big hint,” she said.
