With the sides guaranteed to finish fourth and fifth, St Pats look well prepared for a strong finals display.
Diamonds raced to a 2-0 lead inside 15 minutes, following an own goal and a strike from Tyler Maiolini.
However, St Pats responded with two free kicks from Kate Fruend and a header from Raq Vogel to take a 3-2 advantage into the break.
Claire Mahoney’s second half brace secured the 5-2 victory.
“We were really nervous, because if we had lost this game, we don’t think we would have had a chance the first week of finals,” St Pats defender Clementine Bates said.
Albury City, Wangaratta, Albury United and Melrose all had byes.
The ladder after round 21 is: Albury City 63, Wangaratta 47, Albury United 46, St Pats 40, Wodonga Diamonds 33, Melrose 18.
