Wodonga Primary, Wodonga West Primary and Wodonga South Primary schools are doing the One-Can Challenge this week.
Border charity One Can founder Ainsley Stone said she was thrilled with the support from the schools.
She said Wodonga Primary School had participated for the past three years, Wodonga West joined last year and Wodonga South was a newcomer.
“The kids are really excited about the drive and they have been setting some class targets,” she said.
Wodonga Primary School principal Damian Duncan said they aimed to exceed last year’s collection, which was 2375 cans.
The cans will be donated to UnitingCare Wodonga emergency relief.
One Can has generated 29,000 items and cans of food for needy people on the Border since October 2015.
Ms Stone said the charity resonated with people.
“Anyone can do it at any time; it doesn’t have to be part of the school challenge.”
Drop-off points for donations are St Stephen’s Care Centre, 1 Nilmar Avenue, Wodonga, Monday-Friday; Wodonga Primary School (if you have kids there); Quench N Feed Cafe, 510 Smollett Street, Monday-Friday, 6am-3pm, and Saturday, 6am-1pm; Pound 4 Pound Personal Training, 11/155 Melbourne Road, Wodonga; Smart's Bakery, 391 Wagga Road, Lavington; Profolio, 552a Stanley Street, Albury; and Albury Integrated Health, 663 Pemberton Street, Albury.
