The town’s annual antiques fair returns for another year, attracting dealers and visitors from across eastern Australia.

Co-ordinator Erika Hansen said exhibitors had come from areas such as South Australia, Tumut, Melbourne and Geelong to take part in the long-running event.

Antiques and collectables like arts, crafts, quilts, sculptures, decorative items, hand crafted products, paintings and wall hangings are among the diverse range of items on hand.

Ms Hansen said favourable weather could attract about a thousand people through the doors.

“They can expect to see everything from guns to crystal, silverware, furniture,” she said.

“And a lot of knick-knacks for people who don’t want to spend much.

“You can’t predict what people will like or what they’ll collect, but they all do it, they all get their little bits and pieces and walk out with them.”

Ms Hansen celebrates her 20th year with the fair, while one exhibitor has chalked up 23 years.

The co-ordinator felt the warm atmosphere generated during the weekend contributed to the show’s popularity.

“I think it’s the friendliness and all the lighting and the crystal, the hall is beautiful,” she said, encouraging North East residents to take time out to sample the fair.

“Come and have a look, you don’t have to buy, but when you see something, you might,” Ms Hansen said.

The Chiltern Antique Fair begins Friday, 7pm to 9.30pm, in Chiltern Memorial Hall, Conness Street, and continues Saturday between 10am and 5pm and Sunday, 10am to 4pm.
