Our political landscape has become a parody of Chicken Little. The LNP government has told us the sky is falling: asylum seekers are to be demonised; climate change is not a thing (it is); trickle-down economics is a thing (it isn’t); there is a gang crisis in Melbourne (there isn’t); and any minority group is a threat to freedom of speech.

The difference in Chicken Little is that the fox eats those stupid enough to follow him. As far as the Liberal Party goes, it has fooled those into believing in a myth of mono-culture and class division before eating itself.
We now have politicians who degrade the value of unions and welcome penalty rate cuts and a $17 billion tax cut to banks; who want balanced reporting but apparently balanced reporting is a left-wing agenda. They want diversity as long as it’s white, Christian (but not really), hetero and, as far as the LNP government is concerned, male.
Sussan Ley’s support for Peter Dutton (twice) and her gushing over Scott Morrison's appointment (who voted 16 times against a banking royal commission) is indication enough that she prizes her position more than those people she purports to represent.
In its race to pander to the far right, the government has developed no policy base, no direction, and no future for our children. The system is broken, and the rules need to change.

Situation critical
A public meeting in Deniliquin this week was attended by a true cross-section of our community and highlighted a vital issue for our nation. Currently NSW Murray Valley General Security Irrigation licences are on 0 per cent water allocation, while the major storages have considerable quantities of water. As a consequence, our farmers are unable to finish winter crops which are dying, or grow fodder for their drought stricken colleagues.
Farmers in the NSW Murray Valley understand there are rules that govern water sharing in the Southern Basin, however NSW Murray Valley are urging the federal and NSW state governments, with their water managers to explore every possible avenue to take immediate steps to access an early allocation for NSW Murray General Security Farmers.
This will enable the winter cereal crops to be finished and stock fodder to be grown, however they must have immediate access to water.
This is a critical situation and we urge politicians along with regulatory bodies to investigate every avenue to assist with drought relief. This needs to happen now.

Vale John McCain
Vale Senator John McCain. What an inspiration. A great man and politician, and a great friend to Australia.
Yes a maverick but a leader and inspirational human being who put ego and accolades aside to devote his time and energy to his country and the people he so loved and served. As for Donald Trumps criticism of him, well as far as I am concerned Trump is not fit to be mentioned in the same sentence as this great patriotic American.
I wish we had a few that remotely resembled the late Senator McCain on the Australian political scene as opposed to the herd of backstabbing, ego-driven rabble we currently have. RIP John McCain.
