Hodgson shocked Bacchus Marsh by standing down as coach after three seasons last week with speculation rife he could be returning to the Ovens and Murray.
The Hoppers are in the market for a coach with Clinton Gilson stepping down from the helm and Chris Schmidt uncertain due to work commitments.
But it appears likely Hodgson will commit to his original club Sunbury where his four children play football and netball.
He lives approximately one kilometre from the ground.
“I'd love to get back to North Albury and coach one day, but the reason I stepped down at Bacchus Marsh was to get closer to home and not further away from it,” Hodgson said.
“If things change in the future I’d love to get back to North.”
Bacchus Marsh won a premiership, made another grand final and finished fifth in Hodgson’s three years in charge of the Ballarat league club.
“The travel from Sunbury to Northcote and then to Bacchus Marsh and back to Sunbury for three days a week was just too much at the end,” Hodgson said.
“It has caught up with me a bit,
“Bacchus Marsh has been great to coach and I wish them all the best.”
Hodgson was named the AFL Victoria Coach of the Year in 2016.
