A rounded-up figure of $10,000, the proceeds from a weekend of singing, has been handed over for a Border school’s music program.
Representatives of Rotary Club of Albury North, SS&A Albury and Murray Conservatorium visited Wewak Street School on Wednesday to present the money raised by last month’s Border Choral Voice.
The sum will go towards the school’s Music-Ability program, which the Rotary club has supported for several years.
Dozens of singers attended two days of workshops, masterclasses and concerts led by well-known singer and conductor Jonathon Welch.
Border Choral Voice committee member Anne Hayward said the feedback had been positive, but identified some areas for improvement.
“We’d like the schools to be a lot more involved, so we may change the date next year to a Friday/Saturday to get amongst the schools on the Friday,” she said.
“We hope it will go on for many years and different conductors each year, sometimes Jonathon coming back, giving choristers in the region a huge big opportunity to learn.”
