“I dislocated a bone in my wrist and snapped three ligaments, it wasn’t just a normal break,” he said.
Whiley travelled overseas, as planned, with the injury, but Pigeons’ coach Damian Sexton dropped a bombshell on July 22 when he declared he had been ruled out for the year on medical advice.
However, the former AFL player showed tremendous commitment and enormous courage in making a stunning comeback, racking up a credible 21 disposals.
“I wasn’t my normal self, probably missed a few tackles, which wasn’t great, but I got through so I’ll be back next year,” he said.
Whiley came in for defender Logan Morey, who was named on Thursday night, despite still being overseas.
“I held him (Whiley) back last week,” Sexton revealed of his best player.
