Former Deputy Prime Minister Tim Fischer, writer Kate Rotherham, comedian Pete Denahy, physiotherapist Emma Hammill and balladeer Billy Munro will explore the topic “from there to here” over a campfire.
Principal Alicia Odewahn said the night, from 4.30pm to 7pm, would also feature music and dinner, prepared with the help of students.
“We haven’t run an event like this before,” she said.
“We started learning Indigenous languages this year, so we thought that oral storytelling idea married nicely with this.
“The speakers are all local to the area and we feel quite lucky to have this wealth of talent so easily accessible.
“There will be an autobiographical theme of how people have got to where they are today.”
Ms Odewahn, who took on the role of principal in term three of last year, hoped the event would become an annual or biennial fundraiser for the school of 27 students.
“Proceeds are going back into the Stephanie Alexander program and our sensory garden,” she said.
“We grow and harvest our own produce here – we use it every Friday in our kitchen – and the children learn about how to cook, eating healthily and how to provide for themselves.
“There’s research that the more we are in tune with nature as kids, the better chance we have at continuing that as we grow old.”
All money raised through ticket sales, which can be purchased at the primary school or online at woorageeps.vic.edu.au/, go back to the school.
