You certainly won’t have to travel to Melbourne to see royal show quality horses on parade, according to Albury Show Society president Haydn Shipard.
It’s the second year the Albury Show Society has moved its equestrian events off-site and to a separate date from the annual show in November.
Mr Shipard said the new format attracted a “magnificent turnout” in 2017 with 100 riders and up to 300 horses enjoying spectacular spring weather on the pristine grounds of the Albury Wodonga Equestrian Centre.
He is anticipating at least 200 horses for this year’s show, which is well timed as a “good hit-out” for seasoned show competitors intending to compete in the prestigious Royal Melbourne Show from September 22.
Mr Shipard said the move to offer more horse-friendly facilities had been an overwhelmingly positive one.
“We have had great interest from away after the success of last year’s show,” he said.
“This year we have added extra classes to cater for those serious show competitors and while we’ve dropped the fun ring there is still a double chance ring.”
Mr Shipard said riders could register and enter on the day with Border Districts Showjumping Club also running classes in conjunction with the show horse event.
“This is an opportunity for Border residents to see royal show standard hacks in their own backyards,” he said.
- The polished performers will kick off in several rings from 9am at the Thurgoona centre. For more details go to the Albury Show Facebook page.
