The area won 13 of the 17 categories at the Housing Industry Association Northern Victoria Regional Housing Awards held in Wangaratta.

Flair Cabinets took out five trophies, with a project in Woolshed Drive, Thurgoona, winning kitchen of the year, bathroom of the year, new kitchen over $50,001 and new bathroom up to $30,000.

A kitchen for a home in Adams Lane, Staghorn Flat, was also named best renovation up to $30,000.

Flair Cabinets general manager Ted Lawrence said features of the Thurgoona project included full extension soft close drawers, induction and gas cook tops and engineered stone bench tops.

The renovation, designed by Emily Bramich, turned a dark, older kitchen “into something magnificent”.

B&H Homes’ Sandalwood display house in Thurgoona won three awards, taking out the $300,001-$400,000 display category, best kitchen in a display home and display home of the year.

B&H Homes director Joshua Baker said like the Alkira, a Master Builders award winner in June, the Sandalwood was designed by his late father Julian, who founded the company.

“He leaves an indelible legacy of beautiful architecture in the North East,” Mr Baker said.

Hargreaves Joinery received two kitchen awards for their work in Rose Drive, Yarrawonga (new up to $30,000) and Telford Street, Yarrawonga (new $30,001-$50,000).

Other winners at last week’s presentation included Southern Vale Homes (custom-built home up to $350,000, Beechworth-Wodonga Road, Leneva), R&R Quality Homes (custom-built home $500,001-$750,000, Trotman Drive, Wangaratta) and Lekeal Quality Custom Homes (display home $400,001-$500,000, Zorro Drive, Yarrawonga).

Custom built home of the year went to Todd Newman Builders for a property in Barkly Street, Bendigo.
