The brothers lined up in Sunday’s AWFA reserve men’s cup final against Wodonga Diamonds, with a proud onlooker watching from the sideline.
Their father, Gary, was flown over from Spain with the help of AWFA executive member Nico Mathews.
Daniel admitted it was the first time he had seen him in four years and it was six years ago when his father last saw him in action.
“I turned up here yesterday (Saturday) to have a look at the ground and he was hiding behind one of the cars,” Daniel said.
“He shouted my name and I thought ‘I know that voice’ and I looked up and he was there.
“He’ll be here for a week then he’ll go back.
“My brother (Matt) didn’t have a clue either.”
Unfortunately for the Kelly boys, the result in the cup final didn’t go their way with Wodonga Diamonds showing their class to record a 4-0 victory.
Daniel had an excellent season in the division two competition, finishing as the leading scorer with 41 goals and polling 28 votes to win the Star Player award.
