Specsavers stores in Albury, Wodonga and Benalla have joined with the Lions Recycle for Sight campaign to launch a glasses recycling program.
The donated glasses will be sent to a Queensland recycling facility that quality checks, cleans and categorises the glasses.
They are then distributed to people in need overseas through partnering charities and humanitarian organisations.
Specsavers Albury co-owner Ian Hutchins said his store had set a target to collect 100 pairs a month.
“It is shocking to think that there are people out there who are going blind simply because they don’t have access to affordable corrective eyewear,” he said.
”What we’re encouraging locals to give is far more than simply their pre-loved glasses, it is the gift of hope and a future.”
Glasses and sunglasses can be placed in the glasses recycling collection bins or handed to a Specsavers staff member.
