Ovens and Murray officials were left red-faced when Filo jumped from the stage after being presented with his medal and then tripped and fell near invited guests and sponsors on his return to his table.
The Raiders’ first medal winner since Dustin Burns 16 years ago also cut his hand in the tumble.
League chairman David Sinclair confirmed it was “extremely disappointed and embarrassed” about how Filo presented to accept his award.
“The player let himself down, Wodonga Raiders Football Club and the Ovens and Murray league,” Mr Sinclair said.
“The league had taken steps throughout the evening to ensure that the player presented himself in a satisfactory fashion to accept the medal should he have been the winner.
“We also expected others involved with the club attending on the evening to show some leadership in this regard.
“Although Brodie did not swear or speak inappropriately during his acceptance his exit from the presentation was a disappointing finish to a fantastic night.”
Wodonga Raiders president Mark Johnston confirmed he had been contacted by Mr Sinclair about an apology and the club would address the issue, but wouldn’t comment until the club committee had met with Filo.
“We haven’t received anything in writing and we won’t be saying anything at this time,” he said.
“The player and committee will meet and it should be early next week at the latest.”
Attempts to contact Filo were also made.
Albury councillor Henk van de Ven, who was a guest on the night, said the league was entitled to be embarrassed by Filo’s conduct post the presentation.
“It is extremely disappointing events unfolded the way they did,” he said.
“The player himself is responsible because he would have known he was a chance to win the medal.
“We shouldn’t have to put up with that sort of boorish behaviour at a function of that stature.
“The rest of the award recipients were extremely well behaved and respectful.
“But the Morris medal is what the night is about.”
Cr van de Ven said Filo’s conduct also reflected poorly on his club, but ultimately the player was responsible for his actions.
The Raiders and O and M are also on a collision course over comments made by coach Daryn Cresswell about the standard of umpiring after their preliminary final loss on Sunday.
The O and M is expected to deal with the matter at its October board meeting.
