Kane Corben was arrested on unrelated warrants as he walked out of the Albury offices of NSW Probation and Parole in Kiewa Street.
The weapons were found during a routine search, Albury Local Court has been told.
Corben, who appeared via a video link to Junee jail, pleaded guilty to charges of custody of a knife in a public place and possess or use a prohibited weapon without a permit.
Fourteen months ago, Corben’s father, Dave Corben, warned about the scourge of methamphetamine, pointing out how the highly addictive drug turned his normal, middle-class kid into an an addict committing crime sprees, including pursuits, firearms offences, a ram raid and an incident where he tried to run down an off-duty police officer.
The court was told how police received information on June 28 at 4.20pm that Corben was at Probation and Parole.
Ten minutes later, the 23-year-old unemployed man left the building and was promptly arrested.
Police found a black four-finger knuckle duster in the right-hand pocket of his track pants, as well as a knife with a 5 centimetre blade.
“I took the knuckle dusters from a mate’s place a few days ago, it looked like a good one,” Corben said when questioned.
As for the knife, he claimed he had “forgotten it was there”.
Magistrate Imad Abdul-Karim this week adjourned Corben’s sentencing to December 4, when he faces a hearing after pleading not guilty to an unrelated charge of aggravated assault with intent to take or drive a motor vehicle in company.
