In a sign of the firepower that came into the Hume league over the off-season, Culcairn pair Jye Shields and Tim Hallinan, Murray Magpie midfielder Daniel Maher, Osborne’s Duncan McMaster and Brock-Burrum’s Nico Sedgwick held their spots.
A host of big names delivered after finding their way to the league in 2018.
Henty’s Damian Cupido was front and centre.
While the former AFL player was expected to dominate, he thrived on playing out of the goal-square with his 114 goals setting the competition alight.
Cupido went virtually goal-for-goal with another quality forward in Trent Castles who needs five majors in Saturday’s grand final to grab bragging rights.
Fellow Henty star Daniel Cox’s selection was a no-brainer with the West Australian consistently racking up 30-plus possessions.
He finished runner-up to Spider signing Steve Jolliffe in the Azzi medal.
“I just enjoyed my footy again,” Jolliffe said.
“We didn’t have a great season as a side but hopefully we can pick up next season.
“It’s a good competition with a lot of quality players running around.”
Half-forward Jarrah Maksymow deserved his spot in the Team of the Year after a fine home and away series before the wheels fell off in a controversial finals series.
Other newcomers to make the side were Brooker pair Sam Harris and Brock Knights who ran one-two in Holbrook’s best and fairest.
Andrew Mackinlay grabbed a spot in attack after taking over as its No.1 goalkicker.
Saint full-back Jeremy Luff was a tower of strength at full-back while his teammate Aidan Johnson emerged as a genuine star of the competition.
And then there’s big Matt Seiter.
Seiter rag-dolled opposition ruckmen in the second half of the season which cleared a path for quality midfielders like Nico Sedgwick and Ron Boulton.
CDHBU’s Kade Rowe and Dane Hallinan made the line-up again after missing in 2017.
Rand-Walbundrie-Walla’s Chris Duck and Jindera’s Mitch Lawrence and Michael D’Arcy were selected for the first time.
Jindera’s Sam Myors and Ryan Speed, Osborne coach Matt Rava, Brooker Josh Jones, Lockhart’s Zac Sheather and Saint Darcy I’Anson could consider themselves unlucky.
