The apples were bought from a supermarket last week and the needle found on Wednesday.
Inspector Scott Russell said it was the second time an item had been found in fruit.
Albury Inspector Scott Russell said local officers were investigating the reports before passing information onto the robbery and serious crime squad.
“It’s the second incident we’ve had reported to us here in Albury and again it’s being followed up at a higher level,” he said.
“This is a national incident which is being followed up by all jurisdictions.”
Inspector Russell said no-one had been injured during the two incidents.
He said police had procedures to follow when such incidents were reported.
There were more than 100 contamination reports nationwide by Wednesday.
