An 11-year veteran of AFL umpiring has handed some sage advice to the youngest grand final official in league history.
Wodonga product Jacob Mollison has umpired just over 200 games at the elite level and officiated Melbourne-Geelong in the first week of finals.
Wangaratta schoolboy Hayden Pearson will grab’s Mollison’s O and M record as the youngest when he umpires Sunday’s grand final between Albury and Wangaratta at only 16 years and three months.
“Take on board any constructive criticism, look for ways to improve yourself, look for continuous development opportunities and that will be via your coaches, your peers,” Mollison offered.
“Be humble and respectful of those before you because they can help you.”
Pearson will umpire with Jason Raine and Ash Broughton, who’s in his fourth decider.
“The main aim (is) to set the tone in the first 10 minutes,” Broughton said.
