The McNally award is given to the goalkeeper with the most votes in the combined men’s and women’s best and fairest count.
Campbell admitted it was her highest individual honour.
“It was a bit of a shock. I thought maybe a couple of us would do OK in the vote count, but I definitely didn’t expect that,” Campbell said.
“It’s lovely that they’ve got an award for goalkeepers, it’s something different.
“The Australian Country selection was pretty good, but in terms of individual achievements this would have to be at the top.
“I think playing with a team I’ve been with before and knowing I can play my game, which is probably a little bit more aggressive, and having their support, was really good.
“I felt like I had a really good season, it was just disappointing that it had to end early because I had a finger injury and had to have hand surgery.”
