It’s a symbol of our united community and how as one we walk for 24 hours
- Cristy Jacka
Border Relay For Life has created an aluminium baton that will be carried around the track at Birallee Park, Wodonga, throughout the 2018 event on October 27 and 28.
Every team – 108 have registered so far – will have the opportunity to carry the Border Baton for part of the relay.
“It’s a symbol of our united community and how as one we walk for 24 hours,” committee member Cristy Jacka said.
“We all are fighting the same fight.”

Fellow committee member Carl Friedlieb said up to 250 names – of individuals, families, teams, schools or businesses – would be engraved on the baton.
“We’re going to keep these, make a new one every year, so we’ll be able to look back,” he said.
“It’s another way of being part of the event.”
Names of up to 18 characters can be submitted, first come first served, via relayforlife.com.au/Border by searching for the Border Baton team and making a $20 donation.
The 2018 relay has raised $113,000 to date, with 860 participants.
Early bird registrations can be made until the end of September.
“The excitement’s in the community, which is excellent,” Mr Friedlieb said.
“The chatter around town is starting to increase.”
