A superb presentation of the venue and wins in the A and B grade netball grand finals to Wangaratta and a Wangaratta Rovers premiership in the under-18s football was close to the perfect result for the mayor.
The missing link was the senior football with the Magpies unable to defend their premiership.
“It was a pity we couldn’t get four from four, but three out of four isn’t bad,” Cr Clarke said.
Wangaratta Council was on a mission to deliver a successful O and M grand final after the event had been played at Lavington Sportsground every year since 1994 when it was last held at the Norm Minns Oval.
The Magpies’ netball court was also upgraded for the occasion despite creating some inconvenience for the eventual A and B grade premiers.
“We’re very, very happy,” Cr Clarke said.
“We got accolades right, left and centre from board members and other members of the community on our presentation.
“It shows the Ovens and Murray we can put on a very good show for them.
“Everything went well and I can’t praise my staff enough.
“The ground staff treated the playing arena like it was their own backyard.
“They were very anxious to present something that was magnificent and they did that.
“I think we will definitely look at putting our hand up again next year.”
Lavington will be out of action again in 2019.
