Warren Alan Forbes, 46, was convicted of manslaughter after shooting Black Uhlans bikie Andy Hullick dead in Albury in May 2002.
He was also convicted of manslaughter after a man was stabbed outside the Globe Hotel in Dean Street two months earlier.
Forbes appeared to have been doing well after his release from prison a year ago, having found a well paying job with a Sydney building company.
But the 46-year-old was taken back into police custody six months after his release after being caught with large amounts of meth and cocaine in a stolen Mercedes at Gundagai.
He had been travelling south on the Hume Highway, heading to Melbourne to make a drug drop off.
The Goulburn Local Court recently heard the car had been “swerving all over the road, in and out of lanes” on March 30.
Forbes pulled up short at a breath testing site on Mount Street and was seen moving about in the vehicle.
He got out of the car, went back inside, appeared to tie up his shoes and spoke to police, who searched the car.
“I didn’t know that was there, but it doesn’t look good,” he told the officers after they found a bag with white residue.
A pencil case on the front seat had scales, water and two spoons.
Forbes had covered his tongue with Vaseline with concerns he would test positive for drugs, but the ploy failed.
Plates stolen from a BMW were found folded and stuffed down his pants.
Four bags of drugs, Suboxone strips, and three capped syringes were also located in his underwear.
He told police he had been delivering the drugs to Melbourne and was paid in speed to do so.
He had snorted the drug the night before, Forbes told the officers while being questioned at the Gundagai station.
Police estimated the ice was worth nearly $20,000.
Forbes – who has spent much of his life behind bars, and has a tattoo stating “f--- the authorities” on his torso – recently pleaded guilty to drug supply charges.
The court heard he was on parole for serious offending when he was arrested and had been “not long out of custody”.
He will return to the Wagga District Court for sentencing on October 12 on charges including drug supply.
