Firefighters were called to the highway, north of Holbrook, about 9.15pm on Tuesday.
A truck driver detached his two trailers after noticing one one fire and tried to extinguish the blaze.
He saved the prime mover from being burnt, but the trailers were destroyed.
Diversions remain in place.
A second incident occurred about 9.50pm when an oncoming heavy vehicle failed to notice the crash scene.
The vehicle crashed into two other trucks and ended up down an embankment before catching alight.
The driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
