Star FM is set to punt on a couple of Sydneysiders while The River has turned to veteran presenters to fill the early morning shift.
Heath Piper and Lucas “Normy” Dorrell, who most recently have piloted a weekend comedy show on Sydney’s Triple M, will take over the breakfast slot on Star FM from Monday, February 14.
They will be going head-to-head with Luisa Pelizzari and Kevin Poulton who started on the The River on January 17, after replacing husband and wife team Darren and Adele Sommer who have taken a break from radio after resigning at the end of last year.
The program director for Star FM and The River, Phil Bradley, said Pelizzari, who has previously hosted breakfast shows on Star and 2AY, and Poulton, who has been on the Border since 1986, both had strong Border connections.
“Luisa has been in radio for over 20 years and she’s been on the Border for a good deal of that time,” Mr Bradley said.
“Kevin is known for hosting weddings and parties and other things over the years so he’s well known on the Border.”
Piper and Dorrell, who will have the on-air tag of Heath and Normy, have been a teacher and advertising copywriter respectively while pursuing their radio goals.
They replace Matt Griffith and Lachlan Clark, better known as Matt and LC, who had been the Star breakfast hosts since January 2008.
Mr Bradley said the pair, who have since joined Sea FM in Hobart, had flagged their intentions to move on.
“They had done a fair bit here and they were looking at what the next opportunity was and as a network we had them earmarked for a big opportunity,” he said.
Border AM commercial station 2AY has also changed its breakfast host this year with announcer Andy Walker being replaced by Sandra Moon.
