After an incredible Ovens and Murray journey, Thompson has opted to play out his career at his home club.
Hawks’ coach Adam Mudra admitted the conversation to welcome Thompson back has happened over many years.
“We’re really fortunate that he decided he wanted finish a very successful O and M journey and finish off his footy career at Kiewa with some of his good mates,” Mudra said.
“We’ve got some young defenders in Andy Cardwell, who’s only 23 and Cameron Evans, who’s 20, so hopefully he can give them some of his knowledge and make those guys better.”
Thompson, 29, played junior football with the likes of Jack Di Mizio and Tim Kindellan, who both forged strong careers in the Ovens and Murray before returning to the Hawks.
