Three recruits hit the scoresheet after the break, as Sydney won convincingly after the Wanderers dominated the first half of Saturday's semi-final at Penrith Stadium.

The Cup holders will now play Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium on October 30, less than two weeks after the teams play there during the opening round of the A-League.

Sydney's victory set up a rematch of last season's Cup final which the Sky Blues won 2-1 at Allianz Stadium.

Wanderers, who have won just one of the last 14 Sydney derbies, created all the best first half chances.

However, they were consistently foiled by Sydney goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne, who denied Alex Baumjohann, Oriel Riera and Jaushua Sotio with sharp saves.

The home team was made to pay after Corica's pep talk as Trent Buhagiar, Siem de Jong and Adam Le Fondre all hit the net from Sydney's first three attempts on target.

"They were putting us under pressure, they were pressing up high, we needed to be better with the ball, move it quicker and be brave for everyone to play," Corica said.

"That was the message for them ... the gaps opened up, so our boys ran over the top of them."

Sydney regrouped after an ineffectual opening 45 minutes and soon took control when former Central Coast Mariners attacker Buhagiar neatly slotted the ball past Danijel Nizic for his fourth goal in three Cup rounds.

The Wanderers were guilty of wasting two good chances to equalise when Josh Risdon's shot was defused by Redmayne before Riera headed over the bar from close range.

Dutchman de Jong gave Sydney a two-goal buffer when he curled an exquisite free-kick over the wall and past Nizic and then English import Le Fondre blasted a penalty into the roof of the net after being fouled by Tarek Elrich.

"The result is a disaster for us because the performance was good, even in the second half," lamented Wanderers coach Markus Babbel.

"It's hard for the team because they worked hard, they did many things right, but if you can't score then it's not a good day for us."

Adelaide advanced to the final with a with a 2-0 away win over Victorian NPL side Bentleigh Greens in Melbourne on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Wanderers on-field woes could be compounded by disorder in the stands.

A flare was ignited in their supporters section in the first half and objects, including what appeared to be bottles, were thrown from the same area onto the ground during the second half.
