He and Farrer MP Sussan Ley will announce the track upgrades will allow the use of V/Locity trains on the line, which can run at 130 km/h, according to a News Limited report.
The scope of works for the project was expected to be released earlier in the year, but was delayed after the federal government announced extra money for the line.
Mr McCormack said that scope of works has now been approved and the end result will mean more reliability and less delays on the train line.
But The Border Mail understands the works do not have approval from the Victorian government, which is concerned about delays for passengers during the upgrade process.
More to come.
