Holbrook and Osborne are set to lead the way.
CULCAIRN
Captain: Vince Chaffey
Last year: 5th (HDCA)
Gains: Nil
Losses: Dylan Pumpa (Albury), Rory Jenkins (Lavington), Jamie Cooper (moved away), Brendan Sheather (retired)
Prospects: While the Lions have lost some top-end talent, experienced heads Steve Brand, Vince Chaffey and Norm Barlow will keep them competitive. Brand’s wicket will still be one of the most prized in the competition despite the all-rounder being in the twilight of his career. Youngsters Riley and Lachie Knobel and Mitch Way are among a young group pushing up.
Prediction: 7 to 10
HOLBROOK
Captain: Hamish Mackinlay
Last year: 2nd (HDCA)
Gains: Will Heriot and Andrew Mackinlay (Lavington), Tom Stead and Josh Jones (out of retirement)
Losses: Tim Walsh (retired), Bailey Parker (Wollongong)
Prospects: Will be hard to beat for the inaugural CAW Hume premiership. Picked up four quality players to bolster a side which wasn’t far away last season. There will be plenty of added incentive with the club celebrating its 150th anniversary. A reunion dinner is planned for February.
Prediction: 1 to 3
HENTY
Captain: TBA
Last year: 3rd (HDCA)
Gains: Shannon Terlich, Greg Schuller (out of retirement)
Losses: Chris Manns (knee)
Prospects: In what shapes as an even competition, the Swampies should be thereabouts. The loss of paceman Chris Manns with a knee injury is a blow but they have the firepower to play finals. Could be one of several clubs who take time to hit their straps.
Prediction: 4 to 6
WALBUNDRIE
Captain: Craig Mabon
Last year: 4th (BDCA)
Gains: Jarrod Millar (Euroa), Alex McMaster (Albury)
Losses: Tom Hargreave (Lavington)
Prospects: Performed well after coming out of recess last season. Have signed a potential wildcard in Jarrod Millar from Euroa while Alex McMaster should also be handy.
Prediction: 7 to 10
WALLA
Captain: Tom Simmons
Last year: 3rd (BDCA)
Gains: Nil
Losses: Jono Groves (retired)
Prospects: Walla returned to finals action last season after a drought and should stay in the mix with Tom Simmons, Mark Taylor, Joel Merkel and Mitch Lauritzen forming a strong bowling attack. Will need to improve with the bat to make serious inroads.
Prediction: 4 to 6
RAND
Captain: Mark Kreutzberger
Last year: Premier (BDCA)
Gains: Will Swift (knee), Brayden Lieschke (knee)
Losses: Nil
Prospects: Came from the clouds to win last year’s premiership and look certain to be around the mark against. Will Swift and Brayden Lieschke didn’t play last season due to injury and will only strengthen their chances. Have had a golden run with flags in the Brocklesby and District association and will look to continue the domination in CAW Hume.
Prediction: 1 to 3
LOCKHART
Captain: Chayte Burkinshaw
Last year: Premier (HDCA second division)
Gains: Luke and Ryan Argus (Narrandera)
Losses: David Gibb (semi-retired)
Prospects: After winning three successive B grade flags, the Demons have been promoted and are confident of being competitive. All-rounder James Mitchell, experienced paceman Clinton Renner and wicketkeeper-batsman Chayte Burkinshaw will be pivotal to their chances of making an immediate impact.
Prediction: 7 to 10
BURRUMBUTTOCK
Captain: Trent I’Anson
Last year: 2nd (BDCA)
Gains: Nil
Losses: Darcy I’Anson (Lavington), Zac Barrenechea (New City), Eddy Ziebarth (East Albury), Greg Tallent (retired)
Prospects: The Swans have suffered more losses than any other club with three key players from last year testing themselves at a higher level. Opportunities will be there for youngsters like Keith Tallent to step up.
Prediction: 7 to 10
OSBORNE
Captain: Nick Perryman
Last year: Premier (HDCA)
Gains: Nil
Losses: Nil
Prospects: Not much has changed at Osborne with the Tigers likely to blood under-15 premiership players Joe Perryman, George Carn and Ryan Collins at different stages. Definite contender especially with the pressure of last season relieved.
Prediction: 1 to 3
TRYC
Captain: Todd Hannam
Last year: 4th (HDCA)
Gains: Nil
Losses: Michael Driscoll (football)
Prospects: TRYC might take time to settle with several players still up in the air. Ryan Kirkwood could miss until Christmas due to an elbow injury and youngsters Ned Mazzochi and Dale Marsden are likely to be given chances in the top grade. Young paceman Michael Driscoll will be unavailable due to GWS commitments.
Prediction: 4 to 6
