The group is hoping art and multicultural celebrations will converge at Woodland Grove this Australia Day for the perfect celebration and resurrection of tradition.
President Ian Deegan said the group would be running Art in the Grove, a modern version of Art in the Park which ran through the early 1990s.
He said residents would bring blank canvases and, in four to five hours, paint something Wodonga-related for a first prize of $750.
The artwork would then be given to a charity, for them to auction and benefit from the proceeds.
The event will also be an important celebration of Wodonga and all the cultures which make up its population.
Mr Deegan said the group is calling for all cultural groups or people who would like to have their ethnicity represented through dance, cultural dress or food on the day to contact them.
“We really want to represent everyone in Wodonga,” he said.
“We’re attempting to get in touch with every group but so no one is missed we’re asking people to contact us as well.
“It doesn’t matter where you’re from you’re part of this community.”
Mr Deegan said there would be a variety of food stalls and entertainment on offer, with a portion of proceeds also going to charity.
He said when the similar event was held decades ago, then on Family Day, it attracted about 5000 people and was a moving coming together of the community and various cultures.
