Going into this has been really scary, but you've got to take the chance, don't you, and see how you go
- Melissa Pollard
Melissa Pollard will host a Ladies Empowering Night next Saturday, October 20, at her eatery, The Elms Cafe, 515 Kiewa Street, Albury.
The two-course dinner with wine includes guest speakers Albury doctor Ludmila Kraft and jeweller Karen Tremonti.
Pollard said the evening aimed to give women a chance to talk about their own experiences in business and what opportunities or ideas might be possible.
The chef, who has worked in a kitchen since the age of 16, went out on her own for the first time three months ago, with The Elms Cafe open for breakfast and lunch.
“The first couple of weeks I didn’t eat at all during the day,” she said.
“Going into this has been really scary, but you’ve got to take the chance, don’t you, and see how you go.”

Pollard believed this sort of fear would be common for many new business owners.
“They think, ‘Am I doing the right thing, I don’t know’, you kind of feel doubt a lot of the time,” she said.
“I’m very happy that so many people are very supportive.”
