Zelma Chick had to prop a stool on the bathroom basin in North Albury in order to balance her box brownie and capture her reflection.
It was her picture that helped inspire a new exhibition focusing on street and lifestyle photos taken throughout the 20th century on the Border.
Curated by Vicky Cooper, the exhibition at Lavington Library includes pictures from the Albury LibraryMuseum’s collection and a history of photography complied by Paul Temple of the Wodonga Albury Camera Club.
Fellow curator Emma Williams said it also included old cameras.
“The exhibition also coincides with celebrations of 180 years of photography,” she said.
Former Border Mail columnist Cliff Chamberlain, the Albury railway refreshment room staff, and residents at the Bonegilla Migrant Centre are among those featuring in Selfie: Amateur and Candid Photography from the AlburyCity Collection, which runs until January 12.
