Che Kennedy was again sent to prison this week, only a short time after his last release.
It’s alleged a Mitsubishi Triton was stolen at Lavington on Tuesday and got involved in a police pursuit.
Kennedy allegedly came close to running over an Albury officer as they tried to arrest him while filling up at a petrol station.
It’s alleged he drove off, nearly striking the officer, with the fuel nozzle still inside the car.
The 23-year-old was arrested while showering at his sister’s home in Riga Court in Wodonga on Wednesday.
The car had been dumped earlier in the day at Hereford Street.
A stolen licence in the utility was linked back to a series of car break-ins near Kennedy’s residence where change, fuel cards and other items were stolen.
Kennedy had been involved in similar vehicle break-ins and thefts in suburbs across Melbourne last July and August.
He had also smashed up his sister’s car in Wodonga last October after she refused to give him money.
“You can f--- off,” he said told police during questioning.
“I’ll say nothing.”
Kennedy had only just been released from jail in NSW before his latest offending and still owes time on parole.
Lawyer Mario Vaccaro told the Wodonga Magistrates Court on Thursday his client had a “very severe” ice habit, having started using at a young age, which involved shooting up.
“He’s done a lot of time in custody,” he said.
“He’s in and out.
“It’s a revolving door for him.”
Kennedy was jailed for three months for his offending in Victoria, and will have to face a possible parole breach and further allegations in Albury court when he is released, including for the alleged near-miss with the officer.
Magistrate Peter Mithen told Kennedy it was a shame for him to let his life get to this.
“You can turn it around if you want to, it’s up to you if you chose to,” he said.
