As expected Albury councillor Alice Glachan, who is the daughter of Ian Glachan, Mr Aplin’s predecessor as MP for the electorate, has nominated.
She has been joined in the race by Border veterinarian Justin Clancy and Walla farmer Tobias Lehmann.
Dr Clancy has worked at the Family Vet Centre, which has practices in Albury and Wodonga, since 2003 after having grown up at Urangeline East and Bowna.
In addition to his veterinary work which included a column with The Border Mail, Dr Clancy has gained prominence in the community through his involvement with the Albury Wodonga Rugby Union Club.
He has played for the Steamers in the Southern Inland competition and been president of the club.
Dr Clancy has also been a member and president of the Rotary Club of Albury Hume.
He lives on a property with wife Tabitha and son Xavier.
Mr Lehmann moved to the region in recent years from Sydney and with wife Amy established the West Walla Farm business brand.
They specialise in free range production of eggs, pork from heritage breeds and Australian escargots.
Mr Lehmann has had a significant involvement in the Liberal Party, having been an office bearer with the Young Liberals and co-chair of a rural and regional committee.
The Sydney University graduate is father to two children, Violet and Horatio.
In addition to her council service, which has included a stint as Albury mayor, Cr Glachan operates the Beacon Lighting franchise at the homemaker centre in East Albury.
She unsuccessfully sought Liberal Party preselection for the Victorian seat of Benambra in 2005.
Under Liberal Party rules, candidates cannot speak to the media during the preselection process.
A vote of party members to decide the Albury candidate will be held on November 3.
Mr Aplin announced in August he would not be contesting next March’s election and retiring after having been the member for Albury since 2003.
He had six rivals for Liberal preselection in 2002.
