Mr Mathews, who owns IGA supermarkets at East Albury, Springdale Heights and Jindera, erected two signs at QEII Square on Monday morning during the Local Government NSW Conference.
Mr Mathews said the scheme was a “massive problem on three fronts”.
He said there were issues were with cans being brought to NSW from Victoria, smaller towns without can vending machines losing business to areas with the machines, and NSW business absorbing the higher costs of selling bottles and cans.
“It needs to be looked at and the problems sorted out,” he said.
