Downhill Devils
Great Yackandandah Billy Cart Race, Sunday November 11, 9am-2pm
Speed demons and aerodynamic aces will come together for the Great Yackandandah Billy Cart Race on Sunday. Drivers young and old will hurtle down the hay bale-lined streets in a bid to be the fastest – or at least, make it down in one piece. Spectators are known to line the streets with camping chairs for this unique annual event, so your best best is to get in early to get a good spot for all the action.

Four Ways
Four Exhibition, Old Stone Hall, 7 Church Street, Beechworth, November 9 to December 2
Four North East photographers have responded to four landscapes in the Beechworth area; the landscapes selected for their natural and cultural heritage values, and their creative potential. The photographers – Erin Davis-Hartwig, Jerun Teerlak, Scott Hartvigsen and Nat Ord – who are all past and present residents of Beechworth and surrounds, have created new work for this project. FOUR, a featured exhibition in the Beechworth Arts Council’s Spring Arts Festival, opens tonight and runs until December 2.
Mountain Sounds
Mountaingrass Music Festival, George Kerferd Hotel, Beechworth, November 9-11
Australia’s largest old-time bluegrass festival lands in Beechworth this weekend, making the Indigo shire town the place to be this weekend. Bands from America, New Zealand and other international acts will share the stage with a number of homegrown acts for the massive festival. As well as two and a half days of performances, a series of workshops will be available for you to improve your pickin’ and strummin’.
Something Different
Scene Changes, The Other Theatre Company, November 9,10,16,17
The Other Theatre Company’s latest production is a bit unusual, you might say. It’s a play about a play – except in this play, everything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Written by acclaimed local writer Peter Uniake and directed by Miguel de Oliveira, Scene Changes is a loving tribute of sorts, to all the drama going on behind the scenes of amateur theatre – even taking inspiration from real life stories. There are also two further shows on November 16 and 17. Tickets are available for purchase at the HotHouse Theatre.
Fitting Tribute
Andrew de Silva’s Purple Revolution, Albury SS&A, Saturday November 10
It’s been two years since the tragic passing of Prince, but his iconic musical legacy lives on. Prince tribute act Andrew de Silva brings his unique style to life, live and free at the Albury SS&A on Saturday night. From Purple Rain to Raspberry Beret, he’s got it all.
Celtic Craving
Beechworth Celtic Festival, Beechworth, Friday November 9 to Sunday November 11
If the aforementioned Mountaingrass Music Festival isn’t your speed, head to Beechworth anyway for the annual Celtic Festival. The Beechworth Old Gaol Tattoo headlines proceedings on Saturday, as well as pipe bands, busking, in addition to Highland and Irish dancing combining for a huge weekend of entertainment.
