Six Albury-Wodonga families will each receive $1000 following a fundraising by champion paddle-boarder Joanne Hamilton-Vale.
Now that the world record holder has reached her target of $6000, she’s inviting the community to join her at Ebden Reserve as she undertakes a 24-hour paddle from 10am Saturday to 10am Sunday.
“I’ve spoken to the paediatric oncology unit at Albury, and they have found six families I can donate them money to,” Hamilton-Vale said.
“I raised $1000 through recycling, Brad Jones racing were a big help and collected recycling at their events, and I had friends in 17 countries who donated.
“I was lucky that I had raced internationally and knew people from all over the place.
“We will have boards available on the day to introduce people to the sport, and I just really want to invite people along.
“We hope to run it nationally next year.”
Hamilton-Vale is the number one female in the world for ultra endurance.
