Visitors are invited to see a commercial scale permaculture orchard and nursery in its infancy.
Established as a new horticultural operation in 2016, Black Barn Farm is some years off producing fruit for pick your own and farmers’ markets but it is a rare chance to see the permaculture design philosophy in the early stages.
Owners Charlie Showers and Jade Miles will outline the business and farm vision before a farm tour.
Topics include keylines, woodsy compost, mycorrhizal fungi, understorey plantings, grafting and rootstock selection, weed and pest control, animal integration and diversification.
Visitors are invited to join a potluck lunch in the old apple packing shed after the farm tour. Simply bring a plate to share.
Tickets are $10 to help cover insurance costs, children under 16 free. Bookings via eventbrite.
It runs 10am to 12.30pm.
