In a move designed to take some of the pressure off full-forward Michael Newton, Porter and Speight are back from stints with Werribee and Bacchus Marsh respectively.

Porter will play on a full-time basis after stepping away from the VFL.

James McClounan has also rejoined the Magpies after kicking 94 goals for Milawa this year.

Coach Luke Morgan said Wangaratta were thrilled to add extra firepower to its attack.

"With 'Juice' (Newton) up forward being the leading goal-kicker last year, we needed some assistance for him and he will be the first person to tell you that assistance will make him a better player," Morgan said.

"Porter, Speight and Daine Porter are now options along with James McClounan who kicked a number of goals this year.

"It's a bit of a new look.

"We feel like we have a strong list to work with.

"It's moving in the right direction and things are shaping up well for this time of the year.

"It's now time to get down to work."

Porter kicked 16 goals in 13 matches for Werribee this year as well as playing one match for Wangaratta.

He has secured employment in Melbourne.

"Josh felt the time was right," he said.

"It's going to be great having him out there every week.

"His employment has changed and everything has just fallen into place nicely."

In a further boost, reigning best and fairest Joe Richards has also signed with Wangaratta.

The only possibility of him departing is if the small forward is offered a contract at the highest level.

Speight was one of Wangaratta's stars in its 2017 grand final win over Albury, kicking three goals including from two outside 50 metres.

Porter and Speight kicked 42 and 24 majors in the premiership season.

Speight was a solid performer at Bacchus Marsh under Travis Hodgson this year kicking 39 goals.

Key position player Jade Cleeland remains the only certain departure from the Magpies with the big-man signing with West Adelaide.

“We’re really happy with our player retention,” he said.

“Jade’s testing himself at a higher level and we have no problems with that.”

Wangaratta will start training on November 20 and will have 12 sessions before the Christmas break.
