Albury businessman Murray Pigdon and other family members have clinched a deal to re-open the one-time tourist drawcard with banks which shut down the previous owners in March.
The snap closure left those with bookings suddenly out of pocket with Mr Pigdon’s daughter one of those impacted with plans to hold her wedding reception at the venue.
The Davis Sanders Home managing director and his wife Renee also live closeby and are life-long lake users.
“We really want to transform it back to better than what it was before,” Mr Pigdon said.
“It is important we are local and operating it as an owner-operator business.
“I think we will develop a very good alliance with our neighbours, who have the caravan park.
“We’ve all done other things in the past, but this one is quite exciting.”
Their son Brodie and Mr Pidgon’s sister, Suzanne, a lawyer, are also involved in the Lake Hume Resort venture.
They have appointed first-term Wodonga councillor Danny Lowe and his wife Kate as the operations managers.
“Building it from the ground up is the really appealing thing to me,” Cr Lowe said.
“It’s something that means a lot to a lot of people, especially locals.
“Everyone has had some sort of connection to the place.
“The community as a whole would love to see it up and running again.”
Cr Lowe previously worked at Wayne Ritchie’s Albury store specialising in water and snow skiing accessories and clothing.
He said discussions had already been held with tourism bodies promoting the Murray River region about the pending re-opening of the resort.
The 26-room motel is about to start taking bookings for the upcoming summer holidays.
A deal is also about to be struck with an existing restaurant operator to take on food and beverage within the resort building which is aiming to be up and running at some stage in summer.
Before its snap closure the motel and function centre had a 3.5-star rating with other facilities including swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball courts and mini golf on the 12,033 square metres of waterfront land.
There is also a three-bedroom manager’s residence and other accommodation operated under lease agreements.
