A homemade device was thrown down the side of the Flinders Way house and exploded about 8.30pm on Wednesday.
Three people at the home were shaken but uninjured.
Witnesses described hearing a sound like a shotgun blast, and bricks at the property received minor damage.
Arson and Explosives Squad investigators attended the home on Thursday with Wodonga detectives.
Detective Sergeant Graeme Simpfendorfer said witnesses and CCTV footage were being sought.
“This matter could have been a lot worse,” he said.
“There could have been significant injury or death had someone been around that when it detonated.”
